This is the second posting of this question, The first time I posted I got a bunch of people asking me why...
PLEASE don't answer if you don't know. YES I have called Dell, I can't understand them. This is not "ERASING or EASING" memory. It's physically opening up the PC

Whenever i run a virus scan, my pc shuts down. It is also very loud... there is a loud humming sound that comes from the CPU and i can even hear it from outside my room. When i restart, it does a disc scan and all that stuff and runs normal for a while... it also does this when i try to convert music or even sits idle for some time... I sent this pc back to the manufacturer before for this same problem... they fixed something, sent it back, and it happened all over again...Do i need to replace some hardware or is there a software fix for my problem, or am i just better off junking this piece of ****... What a waste of 2500 from shop NBC...

I recently bought a Dell E310. I re-installed Windows XP Home because I HATE all the crap they put on. Now, I was in the set-up menu and there were 2 partitions! I choose the one with the biggest storage (56 Gb) and installed. Problem was that the computer wouldn't boot the operating system! Then I installed it on the other that only had 18 Gb. It finally booted, but now I have 2 local disks! One has Windows installed the other is just free space! Why did it split up like that? It is a Serial ATA drive if that helps. I just want to combine the two or use the bigger storage space and have only ONE local disk.

Okay, my pc got fried (literally, it just started not turning on, but then one day when I was reconnecting the plug over and over like I usually would it started smoking and there was that awkward burning plastic smell), and I've left it alone for approximately a month or so. Now, I'm finally buying a power supply for it, because I think that's what will solve the problem (tell me if you think otherwise).

now, tomorrow I'm going to open up the tower and take a gander at how many watts the power supply now on pc has. As for buying a power supply, should I be buying something with MORE watts and or other stuff? (tell me if it is otherwise?)

Im re-asking this, because of the stupid responses.

All I want is 'what are the concerns in pluging in a motherboard into a old pc. Soley just enough to see if it posts.

Mb is a new one, found recently.
Old pc is old enough to not care about but is not suitable to replace its mb with this one (too small).
Old mb does have a pretty good powersupply.

Dont tell me to take it to the shop, I have everything I need already (ram, extra hd, mon, keyb, mouse, cpu on loan).
Also dont tell me about your failures, as my best friend does 100's of these kind of tests a week, but is unavailable for a while per honeymoon. Will probably end up waiting for his view since answers.yahoo is proving worthless

Simply, are there electrical concerns in trying to see if the mb will post. Posting will show the mb to be worth the effort to build a system around it.. The ram is actually from another system (that I wont use for test) & CPU is on loan and will be bought if this posts).

First off, I'm a total amateur when it comes to computers, so any help will be really appreciated.

I bought World of Warcraft recently, and I thought that, considering the minimum specs required to play the game are that of a Pentium III, I would be able to run it on my desktop computer. But I haven't.

Recommended specifications for WoW:

Windows System 2000/XP OS:
Intel Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or AMD XP 1500+ MHz
1024 (or 512) MB RAM
64 (or 32) MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX 5700 class card or above

My specifications (or at least, what I could figure out):

Windows XP
Intel Pentium IV Processor 2.40 GHz
512MB RAM
SIS651 Integrated Graphics with Real256tm 2D/3D graphics accelerator. 32MB shared graphics memory (64MB max)

The one thing I'm entirely unsure of is whether or not my graphics card meets the requirements. There could be a hundred reasons as to why the game fails to load, and I want to rule out whatever I can.

The Caps Lock key is almost never used nowadays. On the other hand it is great nuisance if it is touched accidentally. Are there still uses for this irritating key (maybe when writing computer programs)?
