It depends on what are you doing. Intel used to be more reliable. It doesn't mean that AMD crashed every time. It is the matter of pressuring the CPU and over clocking tweaks. I've used AMD for about 8 years. With the price your will pay for an AMD CPU, your can not find a better Intel.
But these days, AMD has got so much better. It is totally reliable and the speed is great. Specially those 64bit babes. I suggest AMD for any case. But some years ago, for some usages like servers, build farms, ... where there was 24/7 pressure on the CPU intel was better.

AMD's are definitely better than Intel, until this very new Core 2 Duo stuff came out. It is as good or slightly better than AMD. Do NOT get the older Intel Duo Core processor.

Till Date AMD is better, wait for 2 months Intel will launch CONROE , and the whole scene will change. Experts say AMD still doesn't has a answer to Conroe. Final version/ changes in Conroe hasn't made yet but a $250 processor has beten $1000 top of line AMD dual core. It forced AMD to cut down prices. So nothings predictable. AM2 from AMD hasn't shown much improvement over socket 939. So i would suggest wait for 3 months and you will have the answer. As of now reliable, faster is AMD. You gotta believe me. On my reckon my 27 of my friends got AMD and they are satisfied.

As far as speed is concerned right now Intel has launched its new breed of Processors it is Core 2 Duo codename:Conroe.
So if u want speed Conroe is best.
But if u want something which is good at performance and speed little bit compromising on speed go
for AMD Athlon and right now AMD rates have gone way too down.

Ultimately it depends on what u want to do.
Personally I say AMD, having had both.
However some say that Intel is more reliable.
My own benchmarking though on identical setups tend to lean toward AMD though.

I prefer Intel, but I believe that gamers prefer AMD because I think it is easier to overclock with. Intel usually have their BIOS locked, so you can't really change anything or overclock.
