The fans are working ok but at the point where the power cord goes in, its boiling . It's getting so bad that sometimes the computer will completely freeze and the only way to turn it off is at the main power switch. Any ideas what could be wrong?

System...Abit VA-10 mb w/ AMD Sempron 2400+ (believe board is 333 FSB)..256mb DDR400 ram (dumbed down to 333)....

I have 1gb of 266mhz RAM sitting around and I'm thinking of putting it in the system, since the MB supports it...

System seems to drag w/ the ddr400, since i run a lot of open progs, but I'm wondering what the trade-off in performance will be by installing the slower RAM.....

When I go Start - Shutdown, things go as usual. The computer shuts down. But then 2 seconds later the system just starts up again. I have just formated my computer, so its a hardware problem I think. I have also turned off automatic restarts and this does not solve the problem. I am running XP and service pack 2

Hi, well after a couple of minutes of use, my computer either freezes completely or the monitor switches off, then when i switch it back on it says something like: "Attention Out of Range, H:68.8Khz V:170.0Hz". Then when i restart the computer, even in safe mode it freezes during startup. I've tried putting the refresh rate right down to 60Hz but it's still happening. My monitor is an AOC CRT type, I'm using Windows XP Pro, my processer is an Athlon XP+ 3000, and the video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro. Thanks.

My PC died, cannot read any recovery discs, either in Floppy or CD drives, says that I have no drives in machine. All I want are the jpg's off of the hard drive.
Then I will put in a new hard drive and start over. Does anyone know how much it could cost to retrieve info from a hard drive
and why is it so difficult to do this yourself.??

Thank you

I thought that when buying a wireless router all i had to do is get a wireless router, ethernet cord, and wireless adapter

When buying a wireless router, what do i need to get.

My nephew said i would have to get a card to which i would be able to use the wireless router for his computer. If so, is it easy to install, do i still need to get an adapter, and how much does the card cost.

Another thing, if i get a wireless router that states 35% faster, does that mean it will increase the speed of my modem, or just the receiving speed of the secondary computer.

One more thing, if a friend of mine, got a notebook, could he get connected to my wireless router if the card is installed. Also would he have to also by an adapter.

To see what i mean, you can probably find it at walmart.com which is where i will be buying the items.

I blew my power supply.

it is for a P4.

it has the normal power plug thing in to the mother board.

it doesnt have the extra 4 (2*2) slot power plug into the .

it does have another a plug that goes into the mother board. it looks like the power cord that goes into a 3.5 FDD but bigger and with 5 holes/ 5 pins on the mother board.

understand?

so can I take my spare power supply (which doesnt have the extra 5 power cable) and slice existing power cords (to CD, HDD, whatever) and connect them to the 5 power plug cable thing from the original power supply?

make sense?

company name was added to dell splash / I found a great little universal program that will back up and restore the pheonix bios. UniFlash 1.40, a free flash utility with source code in Pascal.
I would have simply backed replaced with standard bios bin from dell but it is not offered and tech support is lacking if not the original owner of the systems. There are apps for changing bios splash in the they're laptops, but none offered or no help availible for the optiplex series. I have one bios bin file so far with a normal splash screen from a gx150 that was not altered, but they used at least three different bios rom chips that I know of so far. #1. sst49lf004a/b/3.3 sectored 128 x 4 (512) #2. intel 82802ab/3.3v sectored 8 x 64 (512). #3. stm m50fw040/3.3v sectored 8 x 64 (512) i have a copy of the bin backup for #1 but need a copy of of the other two or any more that anyone else may know of for the gx150. thanks, Mike

I have an old Windows98 that is currently unused, and would like to backup the things we need and then wipe the hard drive and install Windows XP. Also, we would like to install a wireless card but don't know if we can or not because it is about 10 years old and started out as Windows 95. I haven't dug it out yet, so I don't know any tech specs of it. If needed, we might add more RAM and memory to it.. Anything I should think of before I go about digging it out and deleting everything?
