I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard, cpu. most motherboards now take ddr2 memory, but I just bought some good ddr RAM. to I have to upgrade? What are the ramifications?

Some motherboard can accept a wide variety of memory. You can look up yours at http://www.coastmemory.com

But in most cases, you can't mix different types. That means that you would have to discard the other type.

Some motherboards handle DDR or DDR2 RAM but you can't mix it. When looking for a motherboard look decide if you plan to upgrade to DDR2 then look for one that handle both. If you think you'll stick with DDR there are plenty of good boards out there that are compatible with DDR memory.

that might cause ur computer to frezze up or not run at all best bet is to take the ddr ram back to were u got it and get ddr2 memory or what ever ur computer calls for better safe then sorry

ddr2 has 240 pins
ddr has 184
I don't think it will fit, some motherboards have 2 of each kind of slot though. So you might want to buy one of those.

DDR is not compatible with DDR2, both have different speeds.

there are plenty of new motherboards that take regular ddr. keep looking
