They are both used to pick up the wireless signal from the router.
You only need one or the other.

Wireless PCI Adapter is an 'antenna' card that plugs into the PCI slot inside your computer. You would then have the antenna sticking out the back of your computer to pick up the wireless signal. The Wireless-G USB adapter is a USB 'antenna' that plugs into one of your USB ports. This would then pickup the wireless signal. Advantage of this is that you don't have to open up the computer whereas to install the Wireless PCI Adapter/Antenna you need to open up your computer.

Also, the USB adapter gives you the flexibility to move the antenna for the best signal.

A wireless PCI adapter is a wireless card you have to install in an open PCI slot in your computer.

A USB network adapter does the same thing but it connects to a USB port.

The diff is one you have to open the case AND have a free PCI slot, the other is plugging in an adapter in to an open USB port.

I have a Dell laptop, Clear Wire is my broadband ISP & I have a Net Gear wireless router (WGR614 v6) the only things plugged into my laptop are my wireless keyboard adapter & my HP Printer USB cable.
I purchased my router from Radio Shack for $40 It works fine. I can sit out in the yard or be out in the horse barn & still use my laptop. It's cool!!!

The difference is in how the connect to your PC.

PCI connects to your motherboard.
USB connects to a USB hub.

You only need one. Only get wireless G for either.
