I want to clean my copmuter and also to do Disc Defragmenter, but its telling me that Local Disk D has only 11% available space and its need %15 in order to complete the Disk Defragmenter. What do I need to clean to make some space? and what information restored in Local Disk C and what in D?

Thanks in advance:-)

Ok, I clicked on the D and got a window with a message: "This area of your hard disk(or partition) contains files used for your system recovery.

Do not delete or alter these files.

Any changes to the partition could prevent any recovery later."

You tell me what's stored in them - I don't have access to *your* hard drives. (But typically, Windows is in the C drive, as well as your program files)

Local Disk C/D are the default names for the physical hard drives (or partions) in your computer.

Delete some shiat to free up space. Movies, music, pictures, programs you don't use anymore - whatever.

Then try the defrag again.

Also, rename your drives - only losers leave them on the defaults.

I guess that Local Disk C will have windows installed in it...

C, D are the drive letters assigned to your hard disk partition which you cannot change but u can change the label of the disk from "Local Disk" to a convenient name of ur choice by renaming it.

To free up space in C drive, u can either uninstall any unwanted or programs which u donot use.

To free up space in D drive, u can take backup of necessary files and softwares and remove them by deleting.

Open Disk cleanup, Choose more and in that choose Clean Up in System Restore (i.e the last option) which would keep the last but recent system restore files and remove the earlier system restore points. This can be done on all the Drives of the hard disk.

Now you would have the minimum free space of 15% to carry out defragmentation...

Local disks are the hard drives on your computer. What you need to do is to go to My Computer, click on the D drive, and delete any unnecessary files.

What is stored on each drive is different for every computer, but most of your programs should be on the bigger of the two.

Hope this helps!

Local C and Local D are most likely your hard drives, separated by partitions. It means that you don't have enough free space in your C drive, so basically remove a few programs or files in C drive and you should be ok.

Local Disk D: is just a seperate hard drive or partition on the hard drive.

ok...your C drive is the primary partition and has your o/s and all your programs on it. It needs to be defraged regulary. The D drive is a secondary partition that stores your recovery program. Since it is NEVER used unless you need to fromat your C drive and reload your o/s and programs, it does not need to be defraged. It's best to leave it alone.
