If you have a name-brand PC like a Gateway, Dell, or HP/Compaq, the manufacturer's website will have everything you need. If you have a clone, a.k.a. a "plain beige box" things get a little trickier.

Click Start. then Run, type in:

devmgmt.msc

and click OK. Expand all the items and write down what they are, or at least the important ones like your video card, sound card, network card, etc. Search for them on Google or Yahoo and you can probably find drivers.

Needless to say, I'd suggest doing this before you format the PC. Burn a CD of the downloaded drivers so you'll have it handy after installing Windows.

Go to the Device Manager and make note of the important items such as your Display Adapters (video card), Sound Cards and Networking Devices. Or you can go to the manufacturers site (of your computer) and download drivers for your model, that is of course if it is still in that configuration. Either make note of what is installed as I said or go with your manufacturer. Despite what others might say, Windows will not install display drivers (if you have a dedicated card), sound card drivers (if you have a Creative or Turtlebeach card), or wireless cards (either desktop or laptop) so you will have to see what you have installed and then download them each individually and put them on removable storage (CD, DVD, flash drive, et al) and then reinstall windows, then install your drivers you just backed up. Yes, it's a lot of work but well worth it to get that "new PC" feel again.

try the websites of the companies who made the hardware you need drivers for.
