I'm stalling windows xp pro sp1 on a PIII, 333Mhz, 32MB video, 40G HD. The first part was successful with the blue screen: the HD formatting, copying of windows files but when the pc RESTARTS to continue with the 2nd part of installation the message 'error loading operating system' appears, then it stops there, the GUI installation never continue, I tested the HD with other PCs and it's ok. Does the pc needs the original OEM CD because previously it has XP installed, I just can't find its original XP cd, i'm re-installing with different cd XP. Better yet, what are other causes?

O.K. the first thing is, is this a brand new copy of Windows XP on the CD that you are trying to install? Or, did you install this copy on another computer and your trying to use it again on this computer? If that is the case it will not work. You will need a brand new copy of Windows XP to install on this computer, or find the factory CD to restore the computer back to the way it was when you bought it. Or, you could try to obtain the restore CD from the computer's manufacturer. Once you activate Windows XP on a computer, the hardware configuration of that computer is uploaded to Microsoft. Then they know the hardware setup of that computer. If you upgrade a mobo, you have to re-activate Windows. If you make any "major" upgrades to your computer, you have to re-activate Windows. First off, there's no such CPU as a P-III 333 MHz. That would be a P-II CPU if it's 333 MHz.

Did you delete the partition that XP was previously installed on? If not, you're probably going to need to do this and reinstall XP.

You don't necessarily need the original OEM CD, but you might be using a CD that's at a lower service pack level than what was previously installed on the hard drive. If you don't delete the partition first, you'll likely wind up with a bunch of mis-matched files and the exact problem you are encountering.
