Everytime I run scandisk it says I have 344,000 bytes in bad sectors. I've run it several times and it always says that. During the defrag you can see here and there a bad sector. They aren't in groups and they are random. Can these be fixed? Are they really hurting anything? I want to upgrade to Windows 2000. (I have Mindows ME which stands for most erroneous.) Should I bother upgrading or is my hard drive ruined? If I upgrade would it fix the bad sectors? I would appreciate any information on the subject.

Ok, I've a certain computer for about two years now. After about three months. It kept freezing and freezing. First, it would make this really weird noise in the hard drive, I'm guessing is the fan. Then my computer would completely freeze. What's wrong with it? Does it need a new fan?

All I want is to be able to play a stupid game that just crashes back to desktop. What would be best to upgrade to? I'm not made of money but would certainly consider spending what I have to.

I have a DSL Modem, and i was wondering, if i get a Wireless Router and the Adapter, do i also need to buy a CAT/Ethernet cord to go with it or can i just use the one that comes with my DSL Modem. In other words, does the Wireless Router operate like a DSL Modem just by itself and that the only difference is that i can also use it to connect another computer.

Assuming other specs are the same and prices about the same, which would you prefer:

a) HP AMD 64 bit Sempron processor (Sempron 3200+ (64 bit)
b) Dell Intel Pentium D 915 with Dual Core Processor (2.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 x 2 MB L2 cache)

My friend just needs a basic PC to surf the internet, use Word, Excel. The PC should last for a few years hopefully.

Thank you. Please provide a brief reason why you prefer HP or Dell.

So let me explain my problem. I have a office with about 10 computer running off of one server. I have a network/shared printer that is connected not to the server but to one of the office terminals or computer. In the past there has been no problem. Recently one of the computers now has a problem using this network/shared printer. When it goes to print it restarts. Strange because when I try to access another shared printer in the office it doesn't restart. Only when it uses this printer. I might want to mention that this printer is a Epson Laser c900.

I thought that it might be a driver problem, but I have installed the driver and still the same problem. So I did some research on the Internet and they said it might be a USB/Hardware problem. So I did a system check removed all of the connected USB devices and still the same problem. So as a last resolution I changed the hard drive to another identical machine, but the same problem occurs. Is it a virus?

HELP!

I have a custom made computer with an AMD 2800+, 512 of ram, SATA hard drive, 6600 vid card, DVD burner, and every usb port is in use. I leave my PC running constantly. I recently replaced my power supply which the old one died in 7 months. My pc also reboots itself at least once a week without warning and when I go back into windows it says "this system has recovered from a serious error". Is this from a weak/hot power supply?
