HP all the way. Dell is unpleasent to deal with and many of their systems use proprietary parts that cannot be aquired through normal channels, only from Dell at inflated prices. However, semprons are not 64 bit.

Definitely stick with HP. I work as a computer coordinator at a high school, and about 20 Dells that were under a year old burnt out on us. The processors melted. From now on, we buy HP. Dell has definitely gone down in quality.

i purchased a Dell pc in 2005 with only 256K of RAM. very last 12 months i desirous to improve the reminiscence and became taken aback to locate that 2GB became as a lot because the gadget can take, i have considering been instructed that it truly is Dell's way of creating inbuilt redundancy into their computers: if i choose more beneficial reminiscence, i am going to need to purchase a sparkling field.

I bought a Dell in Fall of '03. It lasted one year. I bought a HP Compaq right after that one died (December '04), and I still have it. HP all the way. Toshiba for laptops.

Except for the price factor, HP is much better than Dell. And it's the best because the after-sale service of HP is extra-ordinarily fantastic.

The Dell has better stats, but I hate Dell cause they charge 2x's as much as other companies for the same standard stuff. HP has come along way, I love my Toshiba

The dell PC seems like a good bargain.Intel is quite Durable and trouble free, and the Dual processer will give you the right amount of processing power.Besides, all service shacks ar better equipped to handle Intel parts.

if its just for that, i would suggest more the hp
dell does have better customer support, but they are harder to upgrade(if your firend ever wanted to keep his computer for a while)
hps are also just good for that kind of stuff
but if you really want a dell, and thats all your friend is going to be doing, then i would suggest the b110 model line
