It is a really old Gateway. It's my alternative computer, but I still want it to be fast. It has 128mb of RAM and the processor speed is about 331 mhz(very slow). What is the best and cheapest way to make it better?

I did a system restore back a month and that is way before it started doing this and it's still doing it so it's obvious it's not a software issue. Any ideas?

i've had the desktop for about 2yrs, just got a laptop, so i let my sis-in-law use the desktop.. now my laptop wont boot, when i push the power button it turns on then turns back off then turns itself back on then off over & over. so i got the desktop back and hooked that up, as soon as it's turned on and goes to the desktop screen messages pop up that say netscape, or int. explorer, what ever it wants has performed an illegal operation and either shuts everything off or if i don't do anything with it for a minute it'll just freeze up. is there anything i can do to fix either of these my self or am i gonna have to pay someone to get in there and fix them? any honest help is appreciated.

confusing and complicated. If computer speeds today had continued to be rated in the simple, linear fashion that they were in the 1990's, about how fast would today's computers be in ghz? Computer clock speeds stopped increasing a few years ago and stopped at around 3.6ghz. Would today's computers (rated this way) be 8, 9 10ghz, or more?

I just bought a new computer (Gateway) because my old computer (eMachines) just pretty much died. I have important documents on there I need to save. If I take the hard drive out of my new computer, install my old hard drive to copy my documents onto a CD, and then put back the new hard drive, will I damage anything or lose data? Also, after all of that, how would I go about installing my old hard drive as the slave? (I've heard that term, but I'm not exactly sure what it means in the computer sense. I assume it's just basically like expanding the master hard drive.) Thanks.

2 days ago I came home and restarted my comp, and the video wouldn't come on at all. I thought the video card was fried, so I replaced it with another card, which worked fine. I tested the old "blown" card in another computer, and it worked. So, just for kicks I tried it again in the original comp, and now its working. What could cause this? The only other thing I did was clean some dust off of the heat sink/fan on the card. I doubt that would fix a malfunction of the video card. It's a Radeon 9800 pro 128 MB running on an athlon 64 comp.

I recently installed a SATA HDD. I have a Chaintech 9CJS Zenith motherboard. After a brief Windows XP screen appears, I get a blue screen with an error code. From what I've read, I need to install RAID drivers, but I only have one (1) hard drive installed (SATA). Do I still need to install the RAID drivers? In which configuration then? And how would I go about doing it? I put what I think are the correct files on a floppy to install by pressing F6 during the boot up windows xp screen, but I don't want to try it. Basically, I don't want to screw up my computer. I'm leaving for school in two days and need to do this beforehand. If someone could help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
