Its a limit of the bios and/or the OS.
You need a RAID to make 2TB of disk space (4, 500GB hard drives).
You also need NTFS to use that much storage. Theoretical limit is 16 exabytes (1000GB = 1TB, 1000TB = 1PB (petabyte), 1000PB = 1 EB) or 16,000,000,000GB. Anyone have a use for that much storage?
If you were smart you wouldn't put 2TB in the PC. You would buy a Harddrive tower for temp. control. That many drives make a lot of heat.
You only need a small drive in the PC for the OS and the rest can be setup as a secondary harddrive system.
I'm guessing you are trying to make a MediaCenter PC and need all that room for DVD Editing and DVR functions. I have successfully created a 4TB machine for a client for that reason.
If you use a SATA system buy a 3.0 Gb/s system (raid should be included.) I bought a SATA extension card that allows me to connect my SATA system up from the back of the computer without USB or Firewire. I use SATA cables between both my PC and the HD tower.

uqlue42 is correct. I have over 400 G's on my IDE, and with my SATA's, I'll probably run over a TB. but I have a huge tower with 5 fans ports to the outside as well as a few heatsinks. Anymore and I would need to get a tower just for the HD's. With current USB tenchology, and can add a few more HD's to your computer. I know I have 16 usb ports, and can upgrade to 32 (I have the cards, just not enough stuff to plug in), so that will probably be the way I will go.

the only limit is if you have enough power and ide cable to run to all of the harddrives. a few of my friends have 2 hd systems. one of them has a 160gb and a 120gb, so thats over the supposed limit that he said up there ^, and it works fine. another friends runs two harddrives, one with linux and one with windows xp.
