If the socket type and the bus speed of a CPU match the specifications of the motherboard you are attempting to install it in, does the CPU speed have any impact on whether or not it will work in the motherboard?
For example, I am attempting to replace an Intel Celeron socket 478 1.8 GHz 400MHz system bus CPU on an old emachines motherboard. I have no idea what the fastest CPU speed is that the motherboard supports? I do know that it obviously supports socket 478 CPUs with a 400MHz system bus. So would it be safe to assume that this motherboard can support ANY socket 478 CPU that runs on a 400MHz system bus or is the CPU speed a factor that must be used in determining whether or not its compatible with a specific motherboard? Please help. Thanks.

I'm trying to change from an Nvidia Geforce 5200 (I think) to a Radeon 5500. I plugged it in and windows wouldnt load - i rechecked it, replugged it in and still nothing, basically i get the windows loading page and no more. The old video card still works. Anyone know any reason why? Oh and I installed the drivers etc with the manufacturers disk while using the old card.

I've got something crazy on my computer. I'm trying to open my disk drive [C:\] simply by double-clicking it. It shows me the Open With...... Dialog Box to choose from the list of softwares on my computer. How the hack will I be able to change it? I've tried changing it from the
"Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> Drive - Advanced"
thing. Searched all over the net. Now I'm asking you people and counting on at least "ONE-OF-YOU".

I got an old computer from a friend thinking it would be a good intro to computers for my mum. It's been lying collecting dust for a couple of years and when i switched it on the lights flickered for a bit then gradually fizzled out.

It continues to do this but the lights seem to be stayin on a bit longer although the machine never properly powers up. I've tried blowing the dust out of it with a hairdryer!

Are there any other things i could be doing to help restore it to life or should i put it in the bin? It had been working fine by all accounts before its final switch off.

I've plugged in speakers and headphones that are brand new, i have checked the volumes and they are all on high, but when there is something playing on the screen, no sound will come out, even when i first start up windows. I had sound when I first got this computer and then it just stopped. What should I do?

i have a compaq computer and somebody told me that comaqs don't let you add anything, so CAN i even add a dvd burner? if not internally, then EXTERNALLY?

and here is my other question. i can't currently play dvds on my computer, though i can play movies on cdrs... so i'm wondering if the dvd burner would also function as a dvd player? or do some do this if not all? any special lingo i should look for?

Hi i've been havin problems wit computers lately. its about the desk space and crap. mycomputer supose to have 40G of harddrive space but some how it lost 6G now its maxmim is 34.5 and i reinstalled windows hope to delete virus and programs so i can have my space back, but no it didnt work. it only reinstalled a new windows. the space its same. so now am always running out of deskspace. and the wierd thing is the desk space displayed on the C dosnt match wen i right cllck and check the space in the C i've right clicked and checke everthing in C and it add up no more than 7G and its C display i've already used 26G of space! can some one heklp me?
