I've plugged in speakers and headphones that are brand new, i have checked the volumes and they are all on high, but when there is something playing on the screen, no sound will come out, even when i first start up windows. I had sound when I first got this computer and then it just stopped. What should I do?

speakers on? (light too?)
still plugged in? (I know these are the basics
- but something is basically wrong)

on your START bar - is there a little speaker that you can click on and
bring up your sound levels - are there check marks in the MUTE
box(es)? take 'em out OK

what about your sound card - is there a troubleshooting feature?

go to Start - then - Help and Support
and pick the troubleshooting guide in Windows - it will walk you
through some things to do !

best of luck

I would suggest you to
1)check whether the drivers for your headphone are installed or not?

By that i mean, If you've got a cd along with the headphone try to insert it in your CD ROM.. install the software and it will do.
or else..
2)Take your motherboard cd and insert it in CD ROM and then install the SOUND DRIVERS.. as you've said that even the start-up sound is also absent, this option will help you out.

This happens when there is some problem in the Sound Drivers, they tend to get corrupt and hence we need to re-install them from the cd which we've got while purchasing the computer.

Happy Listening.

the new speakers and headphone may have a compatibility problem with your OS(operating Sytem ex. windows xp windows 98) try to check the sound driver or try installing the sound card driver again. just specify you motherboadr and try to search it in the web.hope it will work
