E6700 is Core 2 Duo with 2 CPUs at 2.66 GHz. Athlon 64 5600 has 2 CPUs at 2.8 GHz. Core 2 Duo is slightly more efficient, so they are probably equal on average. 5600 consumes more watts and has smaller L2 cache but has larger L1 cache and superior memory bus structure.

By theory, the 5600 is equal to an Athlon FX-62......

It seems that the E6700 is still slightly faster in most aspects compared to the Athlon64 X2 5600.

Go to the link in my source and see it for yourself. Hope this helps. :)

E6700 performered faster than more advanced Athlon chips in most tests. E6700 = 4 CPUs in 1 socket. Athlon x2 = 2 Cpus in 1 socket.
