I bought a computer 5 days back.We are using it for graphics design.While doing some work, its restarting automatically.

We are using Windows XP..

Configuration is 914 chipset motherboard
dual core processor 3.6
2 gb ram
512 mb graphics card
300 gb hard disk

I see that in a lot of the older models that customers bring to me. there is a fan on the processor. those fans wear out and when they stop working the processor gets to hot and the computer will restart. you probably have a big fan on yours. check to see if its running. keep the case cover off for a while to see if it stops. also the heat absorber on the processor may be caked with dirt that can prevent the fan from doing its job. remove the fan and check the absorber. its probably one of those. everything may seem fine but when you go to use a program the processor gets hotter. when it gets hotter it needs more cooling. ofcourse if you just bought it, it must be clean. you may just need a better fan.

Try increasing virtual memory. I had this problem for the longest time because I set the virtual memory tab to "system managed size", which used half of what was reccomended.

can be because of virus or cpu fan may not be working.
Switch to linux to get rid of viruses

could be overheating or some kind of hardware confict... are you getting the BSOD(blue screen of death) before it restarts?
