If two computers are connected to the same network. One has viruses and one is completely clean. If I only use one computer at a time and never have them both online at the same time can the virus infested computer still spread its virus to the clean computer? Please explain your answer. Thanks!

Basically, im getting a new computer, and i have read that a good use for the old one is use it as a fileserver. So i wiped it, and just reinstalled xp again. It is connected directly to the router, and the other computer and my new one (when i get it) are connected wirelessly through a netgear router. The problem is, i cant seem to map the drives on either computer. So the only drive on the old one is called E: and the newer one has C and D. I have named them in the same workgroup. Also, when i go to my network connections, no workgroups appear, or when i click map network drive and type "\\192.xxx.x.x\E:" to access the drive on the file server, it returns an error saying it could not be found. File sharing is enabled for this device. Could you give me some detailed help please?
Thanks
Rory

You may recognize me from earlier today, and now I got the wired connection working on my router (by downloading a new driver for it). Now i need to make it recognize my wireless card. The card is already installed and is in the cpu, but i have no clue how to link them. I created a network but i don't know how to bring the card and router into the network. Also (if this helps) whenever i look at the list of cpu hardware, it shows the card, but with an exclamation point over it and it says something like "This device is working properly, but my not run correctly" and it says "Error 10". Pleaaassseee help me! I've been trying to figure this out for the past 2 days!

I have a simple LAN. All workgroup PCs. Network Attached Printers. No domain controller. Cable internet access, router. How would I extend this LAN over T1 and have computers on the otherside act like they were on the same LAN? Would they all talk to the DHCP on the router? Some companies who would install the PtP show routers on each end such as a NetVanta 3430, but would any special considerations be needed as far as regular network connectivity between computers on either end of the PtP?

I'm looking for 16 - 24 ports, 10/100/1000 (gigabit). Just to be clear I'll need it to have NAT and DHCP capabilities. Other protocols and stuff would be great but I cannot have it freezing up all the time. I don't want the device to have any wireless capabilities.

I currently own a linksys wrgsomething and the dhcp server on it constantly freezes and the only way I can fix it is to go phsyically unplug the device and plug it back in.

If you know a lot about this topic and don't mind give me one serious answer and one answer where money is no option.

Need to locate Mapped Network Printer info on local profile without loggin into the PC. does anyone know how i can get this info. My assumption is there should be some kind of key in the registery or within the profile folder. These printers are mapped by printer name and not by IP.

I'm trying to connect a router, and my modem has the internet light on, so the internet is going through the modem. The light is also on on the router but it can't detect an internet connection. I know that the ethernet cables work because i tried each individual cable without the router, but going straight from the modem to the ethernet port and both cables work. The only thing that I can guess is that a LAN port is different than an ethernet port. If they're the same, then i guess the problem is the router. The router brand is Dell and my CPU is Compaq so would this make a difference? Help please! 10 pts to best answer!!!
