My BF is thinking about dumping his hard- lined connection at home and switching to Verizon wireless plan... great for him but not so great for me. We had a network setup with wireless router so I couldaccess the internet through my own laptop, now it seems as if I won''t be able to? Will the Verizon card talk with the router to allow me to share that connection or am I SOL? Thanks!

i need a cheep but reliable wireless link between two buildings. it is approximately 500ft with a good amount of trees in between. runing a cat5 wire is not an option. i need something that would allow me to run a 75ft ethernet cable from my router to a post outside to allow me to get a line of sight. the building i need the internet in has too many walls , so i will need a bridge client on the roof and run an ethernet cable to the computer.any suggestions for equipment and what i would need to do to hook it all up? thanks

My dad's friend lives in this area in California where it is in an open field and sort of abanded from oother locations. Wireless networks aren't accessable and even my dad's laptop with a sprint card that can get on the internet anywhere can't get on. The rest of california is sort of miles away from him, so he can only use dial-up.

Is there a way he can get a better internet connection even though they are miles away from using anything else?

My modem acts as a router and it hooked up to a switch, the switch it hooked into a patch panel. I can not move the modem away from that spot because it needs to hook into the patch panel. I would like wireless access in a different room, but how do I set a wireless router to do that without running into a double nat?

For years I could use the D-link DI_624 (rev.C) with every computer in the house. All machines could access the internet and see each other. Lately I haven't been able to use my router to get the work laptop to the internet, but it could be seen on the network. It worked if I took the router out of the loop. Yesterday I re-set it to factory defaults and re-ran the wizard. Everything looked great, but before I could try the laptop I created the next problem. I got the current firmware, & that cut ALL of us from the internet, although all can still be seen on the network. Resetting to factory defaults doesn't get rid of the firmware. I tried a new DI-524 I had, but that didn't help. I have re-set everything multiple times & checked all connections. I'm willing to buy a new router, but I'm afraid it won't make any difference because I have some setting fouling things up. I can still get to the internet without the router. What settings should I be checking?

I recently signed up for Comcast cable. It works great on the laptop the tech set it up on, which my wife takes to work every day. However I would also like to use the same connection for a second laptop that stays at home. The tech said all I had to do was plug the ethernet cable into the 2nd laptop and it would work. However it does not. Any suggestions as to what to do? We have a Motorola SB5101 modem. Wife's laptop uses XP professional; the other Windows 2000 prof. Both are IBM Thinkpads.

I have got a Netgear wireless router. This is connected to my PC via cable and my laptop via wireless. I can access the internet etc in my laptop and pc. Now I need to transfer data from my PC to the laptop. The laptops ethernet port is not working due to driver issue. Hence need to use the wireless way. I tried wireless networking at the dealers shop using their Netgear router and could access their shared files and drives on my laptop. I used the same settings at home. Assigned the same workgroup to both. My laptop has detected my PC in the network, but cant open the computer. Displays the error-"path not right". I assigned full share permission to a drive and some folders in the PC. Still nothing. And the PC does not even detect the laptop. I feel there is some setting issues in the PC. PC runs on winxp and laptop on winxp sp2. The IP addresses of both are different. Netgear router is WGR614v7. Anything needs to be enabled in this?

It seems very complicated to network pc's together. Can you just share an internet connection without actually networking the 2 pc's? And, if so, is it just a matter of a cable? I just want these 2 pc's to share an internet connection.

I tried to connect (inter net Connection wizard)and join in the DOMAIN, but failed. Then I turned the syystem out of domain by clicking "the system not in a domain ir Work group, it is for a home PC" some thing like that. then it said I must "restart" but after doing so system dose not log on in both the new and old accounts. I'm finally getting my OWN computer. The rest of the family can't share -- I work 10 -14 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, and when I get home, I want to play and destress, however, since my mother and brother can't find a way to share and get their things done in the 10-14 hours I'm gone (neither one of them work or are going to school), I end up getting 10 minutes at the end of the night and getting booted off because someone NEEDS the computer, or because they take so long to get off the thing, that I have to go to bed, else I be late and or tired the next day at work.
(sorry, had to vent)
SO, finally, I'm buying my own computer within the next week or so. And I want to have internet on it. The family computer has Bellsouth/AT&T DSL.

And I have no phone jack in my room. Only a cable outlet.

So, what would be the best course of action for getting internet in my room? As in, the cheapest and most efficient?

I'm thinking of getting Vonage so that I can make telephone calls over the net via my broadband connection. Should I go with it or avoid it? Is it as simple as Vonage say? Or is there hidden problems and costs?

I have a D-link modem, router, and usb wireless adapter hooked up to a cable modem. My computer is on the second floor and the router is in the basement. i get about a 50% signal strength and 100% signal quality. When downloading form limewire or bittorent, even when i limit the bandwidth used for downloading, my signal strenth will disappear, but the quailty stays at 100%, but the internet is not accessable. I have to restar the whole computer. Will installing a higher gain antenna on the router work? or should i install a PCI card with a higher gain antenna instead? I am the only computer using this wireless network.

Ours is 1.8mb/s 3G HSDPA on cellphones
Broadband DSL is 2mb/s but they are having trials of 4mb/s because of the pressure from the cellphones.
