Recently a community website that I use went down and the admin stated that it would be 24 hours or so for some people in city to use the website due to the ISPs having to do a DNS refresh, or something along the lines of that.

Actually, here's what he said:
"Everything is done, so the site will be back online as soon as your Internet Service Provider does a DNS refresh. Some people can already see the site, for others it will be up to 24 hours or so."

Since this was posted last night I was able to access this website 3 or 4 times, but then I end up getting this message again. I don't understand how a DNS refresh works, and even so, why could I visit the site random times throughout the day, and then why does it keep going down again? It hasn't been up since this afternoon now, so now I'm concerned if this isn't ISP-based.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

But I can't get the wireless options to detect/configure wireless at all. I dont need to create a new wireless network because that runs on my desktop.

I bought a USB WPN111 wireless adaptor.
How do I get this to work with a Rangemax WPN824 wireless router? Also I use windows vista. Would this be the reason why my adapor won't work?

I have a new laptop and an older desktop. The desktop is running XP and the laptop running Vista. I have already setup router, and have my wireless connection secured and running properly.

I would like now to be able to share files between the two computers. The desktop has an external USB drive that I keep sending things and then unplugging it and putting it on my laptop. However, I would love to be able to share the files over the network. I like learning things, but this is confusing, and I really want to know how to do it.

I am most likely gonna need step by step. So many settings, and I'm not sure what i am supposed to do. If I'm supposed to do it on both pc's or what. Please someone point me in the right direction. I am desperate :)

hello,
i am getting this error when opening ONE specific site only .. (everything else is opening normally) :-

Network Error (dns_server_failure)

Your request could not be processed because an error occurred contacting the DNS server.
The DNS server may be temporarily unavailable, or there could be a network problem.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

I called my friends to open the site and its working for them, however, that site is the ONLY ONE that is not opening for me.

I love to play with and work on my computers. Mostly though, I want to be able to surf the web more often. The trouble is, however, between working 2 jobs, 7 days a week, and traveling from home to work and back for a total of 4 hrs a day, walking and riding various forms of public transportation, I don’t get much time. I recently bought a laptop with wireless networking capabilities so that I might do some surfing while on my 45 min. train ride but haven’t been able to because I can’t connect to a network. How can I get around this?

Here is my problem I was surfing the net and found that my speed suddenly dropped. And when playing games my ping was at 900ms. I checked my cable modem diagnosis. And my forward path used to be 705Mhz and now its at 117Mhz
the SNR is at 34.8dBS the RSS is around 6.3dbmv 256QAM
and the Return path is 25Mhz which is the norm. But the power level is at 56.5dbmv
And today my digital cable box quit working just a few hours ago and the internet has been acting up for the last few days..
I have checked the splitters and they are ok I replaced them and even ran straight to the main line with the same problems.

what would cause this?

Lets say I have an internet router, maybe something from linksys or d-link. I basically wish said router had more ports, so I buy an unmanaged switch to add more ports. How do I connect to two together so that the ports on the unmanaged switch have internet access? Can it be as simple as running an ethernet cable from one of the router ports to one of the unmanaged switch ports? Will the switch just automatically know what I want to happen?
