In the year 2003 when i first got Internet i got this modem called Home Connect Cable Modem and 4 months ago i got vonage so my voice quality is terrible because its like dropped audio so i think the modem is the problem so i searched my modem including the model number on google and i came to their website and it says that they don't make cable modems no more and also my cable modem was first released in 2001 so do you think my cable modem is the problem with my vonage dropped audio and the connection getting away a few times a week?

Also can somebody recommend me a good quality cable modem that you wont need to call your Internet company to get it to running because its a pain in the butt and which store do they sell it plz?

Is there any programs out there that will change router MAC address and then reboot the router/modem? This would be great because when I change it(I do often) I have to disconnect the modem and the router.....thats too much work.

I'm moving to a new apartment and I never really use my landline. But of course I need internet access. So if I just keep my mobile as my phone, the only cost for internet access is to the isp and maybe the cost of "activating" the dsl aspect of the phone line, right?

I have two PC running windows XP pro. With sp2. The first one is connected to ADSL service, I tried to run ICS (internet connection sharing )between these two computers but it did not work. On the client PC whenever I launch internet explorer it shows immediately error message (The page can’t be displayed ) as if there is no connection at all. In fact I followed Microsoft Article ID 314066 (How to enable Internet Connection Sharing on a home or a small office network connection in Windows XP) and many others but it did not work
Would you please advise how to solve the problem.
Best regards,

I want the one in the study to be connected to the same connection but without running a line through the house, nor using a wireless router. Can i connect the computer in the study to this connection using the phoneline in that room? (only got the one phoneline) Thanks in advance, also this is my first question :)

I am closing my home office business as I am returning to outside work so I am selling my pc and all business equipment. Our home setup is at the moment, from my pc (windows XP Home) I have a Netgear router and NTL broadband attached. My husband uses his laptop downstairs too and my daughters pc is in her bedroom - its all connected to the router and modem.

I can't put the router and modem in my daughters room as the modem has a thick NTL cable attached and the box is downstairs and I can't put the router/modem on my husbands laptop either because he takes it to work sometimes. I want my daughter to be able to access the internet, but how can I set this up so that she can!! Hope its not too confusing! Thanks

Hi Guys. Here's the problem: I have hp dv5000 and for the last nine months, it has been going fast until last week when i got hit by a worm called RavMonE.exe. I fixed up all the other problems but this problem doesn't seem to be fixable. When the computer starts up, only 3 applications in the taskbar appear, then for 2 or 3 minutes, it seems as if it crashed then, 2 minutes later other icons appear in the taskbar and these are hp wlan assistant, local area connection and wlan network connection. So please guys help me out.

I have searched everywhere to help with my problem and kind find a fix so I am in need of help. My house is prewired for 2 ethernet(cat5e) connections in every room. I just don't know how to get internet connections to run to them. I have a patch panel in my house for all the ethernet and cable lines to run to so Does anyone know how to send an internet connection through my patch panel? I have a cable internet connection with wireless but it has a very poor connection which is why i want to use ethernet. Do I have to buy a router and pat all 16 ethernet hookups into one and run that to my cable modem? By the way my patch panel isn't anywhere near my main cpu if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

That you plug into your router and then sends the Internet over your power lines. Ha I just repeated myself. But what are they called?

I've been online with Comcast, Linksys (cable modem), and Compact to no avail. At first I had no connectivity via my PC. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and now can ping external sites. But IE and Firefox don't work. I still have DSL, and using the same cords and ethernet plug, I can connect via DSL. Plugging the ethernet cord into the cable modem, I can't connect. Comcast says they can see the modem and everything looks good from their end. The tech who installed the cable was able to connect with his laptop. Windows XP firewall is turned off. Have Spybot and AVG running for antivirus. Nothing running right now for firewall (I'm using my DSL until I can get cable running). I've tried connecting to my wireless router, and can't access the router via IE or Firefox. I've rebooted PC and cable modem dozens of times now. I can repair the network connection and it gets a good IP address per Comcast. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. Any ideas?

Can anybody tell me if I am using a cable modem, without a wireless router, can I use the Speedtouch 585 as a router to connect my wireless laptop and other devices to the internet? If yes, how to do it? I have an existing speedtouch 585 wireless ADSL model with built-in router. But I am using a cable modem. There is no input for a cable point but a telephone jack only. I have 4 lan connections at the back of the router and wireless. I have been checking on the Speedtouch website and they do not tell us how to do it. Thanks to all.

i'm trying to avoid all the wires so i'm looking for the best router/adapter combo: best range and speed without spending that much money... right now i'm using a belkin router fsd9230 and a linksys adapter wusb54gs and i can't seem to get the best performance out of these 2... i also have another adapter (airlink model "?" that has 3 antennas) that will not connect at all, and the router is just in the other room... cat5 will be my last option...

I got Qwest DSL about 6 mnths ago. I have had continual problems getting & keeping a connection. I can see I have a strong signal, but then it hangs up (just keeping trying to connect) when it looks for the IP address. If I do get a connection, they last anywhere from several days to a few minutes. Sometimes I can get back in, but mostly I can't. I have replaced the wireless device three times. I have replaced the Qwest DSL modem twice. I have had the same problem on three different computers. Two pcs and one Apple. I have spent hours on the phone with Qwest support and have had a professional tech person here at the house. He couldn't figure it out either. Running XP (OS 10 on the Apple). All machines work ok on other wireless networks.
We have tried static adresses several times-- that didn't do it either.
If you think you can help me I would so appreciate it, but please, I need explicit instructions.
