Can anybody tell me if I am using a cable modem, without a wireless router, can I use the Speedtouch 585 as a router to connect my wireless laptop and other devices to the internet? If yes, how to do it? I have an existing speedtouch 585 wireless ADSL model with built-in router. But I am using a cable modem. There is no input for a cable point but a telephone jack only. I have 4 lan connections at the back of the router and wireless. I have been checking on the Speedtouch website and they do not tell us how to do it. Thanks to all.

No. the dsl modem and router are integrated and there is no WAN port for you to connect to, which would be needed to share the internet connection.

Sorry, you need a router.

Well the site doesn't tell you how to do that because basically you cant.

An ADSL router has the modem built in and routes traffic from the local lan (ehternet plugs) to the DSL modem. So you dont have any ethernet ability for routing only ability to route to the modem.

The best thing is a standard ethernet router. They are made for either cable or dsl and the modem is external. Thus they are flexible and can be used for what you need.
