I'm moving to a new apartment and I never really use my landline. But of course I need internet access. So if I just keep my mobile as my phone, the only cost for internet access is to the isp and maybe the cost of "activating" the dsl aspect of the phone line, right?

No, if you wish to have DSL you need a phone number. Its up to you if you connect a phone and use it, but the phone number is used as a account number. There is no DSL without a phone number.

DSL comes through the existing analog lines. You must have a regular phone number associated with that line in order for it to be activated. I would reccomend that you contact your cable TV compnay for cable modem service, or call DrecTV to get TV and Internet service through the satellite.

AT&T and most others now have DSL with out phone service. They lost a suit if I remember correctly. But you have to order it and it costs slightly more than if you have a phone line.

Good Luck.

If you get cable DSL service, this is true.
But, if you get ADSL (analog dsl) like from AT&T,
you will need a phone for the modem to plug to.
It's data feed is over phone lines.

There's cellular wireless connections out there for your notebook, if you want to spend a little extra money for it.

Good luck and happy computing.

Check with the phone company. They can answer that question for you. Then there will be no doubts in your mind.
