1. Connect Cable from wall to the Broadband Modem
2. Connect Ethernet Cable from Broadband Modem to the WAN (Internet) Port of the router
3. Connect Ethernet Cable from the routers ethernet port to a computers ethernet port
A. Open a browser Window on the computer and type in the IP address of the router. This is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.158.1.1, but check the quick install guide to make sure.
After putting in the username and password to get into the routers config, run the setup wizard. It would be best to follow the step by step configuration in the install guide of the router.
Thats it.

Usually there is a Wizard subroutine that lead you to properly configure it. You need:
1. connection type of broadband, either a cable or ADSL with associated PPPoE user/pass, hopefully you are not Aussie BigPond because I certainly have no idea about it.
2. wireless SSID/enc type/passphrase, if you are doing wireless first time, make it up; otherwise you should have it.

Wow, I'd love to help, but I'd really need to know the kind of router and how you want to connect to it.
But, typically, you want to install your router software on your computer first and follow the installation instructions. THEN hook up your router. Your wireless computer should recognize the router and then connect to it, possible asking for your password. (PLEASE be sure you set up your router as SECURED!)
There is not much else I can help you with without sitting down in front of your gear.

once you're speaking truly instantaneous, then the ethernet cord is going from the cable modem to the enter into the router. There might want to be no cord from the router on your computing gadget. Then the CD will manage to verify your internet. desire this facilitates.

don't you have the instruction manual? hmm...different routers have different instruction on how to setup their router. plug in the power and dsl/cable internet line, hook up another line from your ethernet card to the available slot on the router. type in 192.168.2.1 or something like that (depending on manufacturer) on your browser. that will give you access to the router setting.

I have hooked up a bunch of them. Basic setup includes:
LAN name/SSID
Channel
Security (WEP, WPA, etc).
Need more specifics in order to provide more specific help
I would also recommend RTFM and/or going to manufacturers website.
