Broadband DSL is 2mb/s but they are having trials of 4mb/s because of the pressure from the cellphones.

Not sure about what is available in the entire United States but in my area I can get as high as 30Mbps download and 5Mbps upload as the fastest offering. This cost a lot though ($179.95/month USD). I'm currently using the 5Mbps download and 2Mbps upload package that runs $39.95 (USD).

I currently have residential service that provides me a download rate of about 6-8 mb/s. I pay roughly 55 dollars for this. Depending on where I am downloading from, I have seen download rates of about 14-16 mb/s. I'm using broadband cable internet.

I know some of the newer services coming out offer fiber optic for residential that should be significantly faster.
