Any router will work. Get a brandname router --it's easier to find help if you run into trouble. The best router you can get right now is the Dlink Dir-655 here http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=530
>>>>This is the best router i've ever seen in my experience. Check out all the awards and reviews !!! It works great for all my network PCs that included a Win98SE,WinXP and Vista laptop.

You can use any router as long as your computer has a ethernet port on the back of it or a wirless wi-fi device. Currrently on the market the best type of router is the new MIMO or " N ". forget getting a 54g one because they aren't as fast. However if you are on a budget you should stick to the 54g as they range in price from around $10 to $150. I personally think you should get a linksys because they are the most familiar and have excellent quality.

However if you are a pro wanting wireless bridging you should Belkin's. they are cheaper too.

** You have to have a MIMO ethernet or wireless device for a MIMO router to work fast. or else it will work like a 54g. which is still very fast. 54 megabytes per second.

Linksys

(Mine is WRT54GS...but there are others...maybe 54G will do, or maybe you need the "heavy-duty" model beyond the GS, and I forget its model number)

I have a friend who works for Cisco...a Linksys pard. He said, *carefully* determine your needs without getting more ambitious than you should, then you'll most likely be safe getting the least expensive router that'll fit those needs.

Check Amazon, of course. Check Froogle. Cost-compare! Check reviews at PCMag.com

You didn't say if you wanted wireless or wired.

If you have a desktop computer, odds are wired would be okay. If you have a laptop go wireless.

If you go wireless I'd go with an 802.11n mimo capable router. Either linksys or netgear has them.

For a wireless 54 MBPS router, I recommend Netgear.
