Not for direct connection to the pc;

Broadband is provided by DSL or CATV or satellite.

For DSL you need a phone line because the DSL signal rides on the phone line.

For cable tv internet or satellite you need no dial up line

Nope. Boradband uses a Cable JAck that you would normlly use for your tv.... what you do is you get a Cable Modem and that converts Cable into Broadband internet,. with a paid subscription of course... then theres DSl which does use the phone jack but you cans till use the phone while using it due to the face that they give you splitters...

It depends. If you are looking into purchasing DSL broadband, you will need a phoneline. If you are looking into any other option of broadband, you will not need a phoneline.
