i have a question about wireless routers. there are two laptops in my house and a desktop. how does the router work, do you just take it outta the box and turn it on and then the computers are connected? and i dont know about the desktop, how would the desktop run off of the router? do the wireless routers come with outlets to plug ethernet cords in them for desktops. i wanna get one but i dont know what else i may or may not have to also buy with it

I just upgraded my ATT / SBC Yahoo DSL to a faster line & its slower. I have a Linksys Wireless G 2.4 GHZ router (WRT54G) and a Siemans Modem 4100.

When I connect directly to the modem its faster but slows down when I go wireless thru the router. I've been on the phone for hrs with ATT and Linksys and still can't figure this out.

I have a desktop and a laptop connected to the wireless network and I have a security WEP set up so no one else is cluttering the line.

Can it be that I need a new router? or WHAT ELSE CAN IT BE?
Its slower than 54mbs when I went to speed test it was 6.3 kbbs, it takes literally minutes to load.

Wireless connection says EXCELLENT. I have had this connection for over a year and just started having this problem.

Wireless is in same room. I already tried turning everything on and off several times. I even reset my router and moved it to 11.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Hi - if two DSL users, not from the same DSL service, with non-routable IP addresses want to FTP files to each other, not use email, not use yousendit.com, etc., what do we do for the reverse DNS? Also, any suggestions on a freeware FTP server that works on Windoze?

I have been trying to connect my computer to wireless broadband i have at home. I know the broadband is working as my housemates laptops and my wii all work on it. When i try and set up my laptop it tells me it is unable to make a commection. run a diagnositic on the internal wireless ariel and it said it was working normally. anyway i bought another wireless arial that plugs into the back and i still can't get connected. when i try and set up a wireless connection the computer tries to find a network but doesn't even get to looking so nothing is found. I'm on BT broadband and when trying to set it up it just says an unknown error has occured and the installation could not be completed. any help would be appreciated before i take it to the shop to see if they can help!!!

Can anyone answer this question pls?

Identify the class of IP addresses that would probably be used for an organisation having a
network of between 700 to 1000 computers. Give reasons for your answer.

1. my pc is in safe mode because i can't use explorer if it's running in a "normal mode", so i kept on using safe mode with networking.
2. i'm trying to go to //192.168.1.1 and i can't access the setup because it won't accept the password, i tried to reset the router but the same thing happens again and again, i tried the dos style, run then cmd, release and all but it useless. But we actually changed the password, but still it won't accept it.
3. three pc's (wired) can connect using the router but my laptop (wireless) can't connect. but when it was newly installed it was working properly and after a couple of weeks, the connection kept on disconnecting approx. after 45 mins, then connect again after 30 mins. and it is interrupting our work.

help >,<

is the problem because of the "safe mode" or the router or the pcs?

I have a Prestige 660R-T1, the original password was changed when installed and i don't have that code. So far, the only way to play with my ports it's just buying a new one or reseting, but since it have already a lot of configurations made and i don't want to reset it, how can i gain access to the system... i just need to by-pass the password protection. Any ideas? (I already tried admin, 1234 and all that stuff)

I live in a small studio apartment, but would like to have wireless internet for my laptop. It is a MacBook and has Wireless N capabilities. Should I spend the extra amount for the wireless N? Or is it more of a distance thing?

Also, does the speedbooster feature on LinkSys make a huge difference?

I just got optimum online and had a few issues with it but got the connection going. The only problem i am having right now is that the Easylink Advisor that came with the router can not detect the router.
Its saying things like make sure its plugged into a outlet and turned on when those are pretty dumb and general questions which i am not that dumb to figure out to put it in an outlet so obviously i have both those suggestions locked down. Its really starting to irritate me cause optimum online isnt cheap and for all that money and the router i should expect it to work fine but it cant even detect my router.
