if when i get will i have to cancell my account withthsi company and start a new one or what, People help i dont know about this...How does it work. welkl i have to get rid of my old modem.. ???

No you won't have to cancel your account. You don't need to get rid of your old modem. The wire that goes from your modem to your PC now would be plugged into the wireless router and then you can either use wireless internet or get another cable that goes from the router to your pc.

If you have the modem you only need to get a router and not a router with a modem. They are two different devices.

You still need to setup your modem.. Then when you get your router it will connect to the modem and your computer will connect to the router.

If your modem has a lan port you need a plain router (no modem), this connects to your existing modem. If it only has a usb connection you need to replace it with a modem/router, this needs to be set up with your login details for the ISP and replaces the current modem.

when you stop renting the modem from the cable company and buy your own. you have to call tech support and give them the machine address (MAC address) of your new modem. So they will allow it to talk on their network. You simply turn in the old modem at the local company store so they don't charge you for keeping it.
