When i try and set up my laptop it tells me it is unable to make a commection. run a diagnositic on the internal wireless ariel and it said it was working normally. anyway i bought another wireless arial that plugs into the back and i still can't get connected. when i try and set up a wireless connection the computer tries to find a network but doesn't even get to looking so nothing is found. I'm on BT broadband and when trying to set it up it just says an unknown error has occured and the installation could not be completed. any help would be appreciated before i take it to the shop to see if they can help!!!

It sounds to me like your wireless drivers are all messed up. I would start by re-installing the drivers for the wireless adapter.

If you have two installed that can cause conflicts. So pick the one you want to use. Remove the other one (from Control Panel - System - Hardware if you are using XP) just highlight it and click remove. Then re-install from scratch.. read the installation directions that came with your wireless adapter.

Probably your machine is HP. Check for an arial symbol printed at some where around the key pad. Adjacent to that there will be a switch to ON and Off your wireless connection. Put it in On position and try again.

have you tried, ; start- connect to- show all connections- highlight wireless (right click and ensure it is enabled)- on left side of screen repair this connection. Simple I know you probably tried this already.

If there is a wireless connection on your laptop, which there probably is (if its 'new'), then you will need to turn it on.

I have no idea where to do this, on my laptop its on the keyboard, next to an 'eco' button.
