Word of advice here...

Never try to over come the IT admin guys settings.
1) you'll get in trouble with the boss
2) you'll get attitude from the IT guys. IT people always think of work computers as their own babies. You start rocking their apple cart and they really won't like you for it. You'll get attitude and nasty looks whenever you see them around the work place. Trust me, I know.

In short it's better not to try over coming their setup. Ask them nicely, if they say no, move on.

Talk to the admin (or their boss) about this erroneous setting. All computers should have a screensaver mandated! Might even be cause for reporting the admin as this is wasteful and stops one menas of network security.

When this happened to me, I simply edited the registry, and changed the screensavor to work again.

You could use your power options to put the monitor to sleep after a time.

Screen saver is a good time saver feature when at idle ,in low graphics mode ,no ,my hp upstair in the second bedroom runs that way, kept having blackouts on the monitor until i disable the screen saver.
