I know a lot about pc's etc so you can be technical in your answer, i just havent used wireless before. Am i right in thinking if i have a wireles router downstairs its as simple as plugging the reciever into my pc upstairs and i could also run a wireless laptop off the connection elsewhere in the house at the same time? How do you protect a wireless signal cos i've heard of people tapping into them?

My computer is a laptop. I am a college student living on campus. (ethernet connection I think is what it is called.) The connection was okay in the beggining but the last month or two has been really slow. It takes a minute to two minutes to download a page and I can just forget about listening to a song or watching a video online b/c it never works.

OK, so my friend is in brazil and the "high speed" internet she has their is 200 KBPS. (the current max in brasil for residents is 10 mbps). I was wondering if I can install a router to her modem and have wireless internet in the house. Will any router work? I know they sell up to 54mbps is that going to work on a 200kbps modem? If I intall it myself will i have to pay the company money ?
thanks!

How can I extend the range of the wireless signal from my laptop. I want to be able to pick up networks that are farther away. I saw a weird video where some nerdy guy wrapped ethernet cord around a cellphone and then plugged it into the computer and he picked up like 16 signals. Does that work???

I have a computer problem and want to know if it is the computer itself or my server. When I click on start on the first screen it takes up to 5 minutes frequently for the icons to appear then up to 10 minutes to get on line. My computer is a Hpf1523h and is only 14 months old. What should I do? Once I get online I have no problems. I do have problems with my scrabble game that I have a cd for and also some of the other programs are getting slower.

I have this setup:
Main rig wired into router.
Laptop, wireless connection to router.
Media player, wireless connection to router.

I have set up MAC filtering, it is not broadcasting SSID, WEP encryption 128 bits.

The questions are, I have 4 keys generated. Should I use a different key for each wireless device? What if I use the same key? Is this reasonably secure?
