I have software that needs to access documents saved to a central location that is not on a C drive. We have a small network where we share our files and folders but the files are stored on the hard drive. Since we don't have an actual server, is there a way to create a network share that is not linked to a hard drive?

I have a computer downstairs and one that I would like to connect upstairs. I have a netopia router/modem downstairs but the cord is not long enough to connect it upstairs. Can I just use the other modem that I have to connect the upstairs computer?

The connection is cable internet. I live in an appartment and am not allowed to have cable wires run along the walls or in them. I am hooking the non-internet computer to an LCD TV (which has cable). How should I go about getting an internet connection to the computer? I don't know anything about networking. Is networking the only way to go?

Can you please help: I am thinking of getting broadband soon. At present we have dial-up on both computers in house (1 downstairs, 1 upstairs). The phone socket is downstairs. The more up-to-date computer is upstairs (so that's the one I'll use the broadband for) and I would like to leave it there. Is there any way of keeping dial-up on the downstairs computer and having broadband upstairs, even though there's no socket upstairs. THis sounds very confusing, but would like to know if there's a solution? Don't mind getting rid of dial up altogether, just use upstairs computer.

Ta! :-)

I have two computers in the same room. One cable modem and connection. I occasionally need to use the internet on the computer that is not set up with the service that I use. I bought an extra Cat5e cable last night. If I buy the splitter and connect it to the Modem---then connect each Cat5e to the computers---will I be able to get the signal O.K. on the 2nd computer? Is there a certain type of splitter that I need to get? I really don't want the cable company to come back out plus have to pay extra for something I rarely will use.
Thank you.

I have two lines, one with Tiscali the other with Talk Talk. The second works fine but I cant get the router to work with Tiscali although their modem works ok. Suggests that the settings are incorrect?

I have four home computers, and I would like each computer to be able to borrow CPU cycles from the others when they are idle. For example, if my son is editing video on one computer and two other computers are idle, it would be nice if his computer could seamlessly, on demand, borrow the processing power of the idle computers. It should be invisible to the end user, not require any additional hardware, and work with any Windows program.

Hi folks!

I am trying to connect an HP printer to my laptop. I have a wireless connection and am able to access the internet on the laptop via the main CPU.

I set up up the printer to be shared by other users. Both computers are in the exact same workgroup. I click on "add printer" in the control panel, and Browsed for printers. The laptop can find the main CPU under the workgroup name but doesnt list the printer...just the name of the main CPU. When I click on the main cpu I get "You need to specify a valid network printer name" message. The main cpu printer is set to share with the correct workgroup name.

How do i get it to recognize?

I am looking for a wireless router as a gift to my techie partner. My friend is selling me a Prolink ADSL2 Modem Router, which has not been used. I tried to look for the specs of this product on the Prolink homepage (www.fida.com) but I can't find this particular model.

Can anyone please give me an idea? And is this a good router in terms of reliability? If you're familiar with this product, would you know its limitations/weaknesses?

Thank you for the help.
