Ok, you can ask me, as I am a computer expert.

A Network Interface Card, also called a NIC card is plugged into (usually) a PCI slot into your computer. It enables you to connect your computer to the internet via a high speed connection. You simply plug the cable from your cable modem into the slot in the NIC in the back of your computer.
The NIC card contains the PHYSICAL address of your computer. By installing a different NIC card, you change the physical address of your computer, kind of like changing your house number from 118 Main St. Columbus Ohio to
134 Palm Street Cleveland Ohio.
Each Nic card, after being installed in the PCI slot of a modern computer, will LIKELY be plug and play with most Newer Windows operating systems, such as Windows 2000/XP/Vista. This means when the power is turned on to the computer after installing the NIC, the operating system will automatically locate the drivers and the NIC will be installed. This does not always work, however, with all computers or all NIC cards, especially older NIC cards and then the drivers have to be manually installed. A driver is the software that enables the operating system to communicate with a device, such as a NIC card.
To manually install a nic card driver, you would need to go to the website of the NIC card manufacturer, type in the exact make and model of NIC card, and download and install the driver. Note that to do this, you would likely need to use another computer, because you would not be able to connect online with that computer until the appropriate nic card driver were installed. It is kind of the "catch 22" in that you need to get online to download the NIC driver, but you cant get online because you dont have the NIC driver.
