i dont have a wireless network and i've just got a laptop. i've been told that the usb adaptors ( the ones that are like bluetooth usb's) work as i will be using it at work mostly, so i dont really want to get a wireless router at home too.

Good morning,

How do I secure my private home connection? I believe there are other people on my street using my wireless connection, because my internet browsing has become severoely limited... even with a cable connection. What can I do about this? How do I establish a secure network that cannot be accessed on the periphery of my house?

Of the two local wireless connections that I can access, one is my neighbors and the other is my own; it says that mine is an unsecured wireless network whereas my neighbors, across the street, have a secure connection.

Thanks,

Av

Hi there

My name is Adam and i am currently doing a GAP year volunteering at a community centre in Liverpool which runs after-school clubs and other activities during the week. We have just recieved 10 desktop pc's from the local school and we are looking to connect each of them to an Internet connection in which the room the pc's are likely to be used in already has a telephone connection.

The computers are quite old as they use the following specs:
Pentium 3 Processor
64mb RAM
10Gb Hard-disk-drive
Windows 98 Operating System

What i would like to know is, what would be the most appropriate networking solution for these computers to be linked to the Internet, in which the room has an area of at least 16foot and also are there any organisations/charities that can provide grants to help cover costs for netowork and Internet setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Adam McCarthy Reed

Every single time I secure my wireless network the internet ALWAYS stops working it wont recieve any outside information, it wont display any web pages, I had to make it unsecured again to post this question, I used the router's settings page, I enabled the WEP key setting to mandatory and I enabled a mac address filter so only my computer would be accepted into the network... does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem...

is there any way to set up a any kind of remote connection with my desktop as the host and my laptop as the client. the desktop is on a hard line with a static IP. the laptop is on woreless with a varying IP. i don;t have access to the router settings. i am looking for either a remote desktop with a GUI or a simple FTP. either would work. its just so that i can get files on th ego.

I hvae tried many different ways of connecting them, and they have all met with defeat. the only way i have had any success was with a bluetooth connection, but that is not good for a premanent solution.

Thanks all
