Go to: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ This is THE best place,.. do it say three times in as many days to get a more accurate result,. making sure your PC is up to full working speed, with no programs running in the background,.. and that you're not downloading anything else at the time of each test; good luck. :)

If you move your mouse over the icon showing two computers in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and wait a few seconds it should display the speed. I am not sure if that applies to Virgin though.

when u connect ur net the two monitor like sign appears on ur taskbar jus right click on it n choose status n then it will display u the current speed
