We will be doing some traveling over the summer. We won't know what sort of schedule we'll be on, so I am not making reservations in advance. (Or else I would just ask the hotels/motels directly) Anyhow do the ones that offer free high speed internet typicly send their signal out via wireless router or will I need to hook up to an ethernet or USB connection?

I have 2 computers in my home (both running Windows XP) and I have internet going to both of them using a LinkSys Router. I want to know how I can use the router to make both computers print to a single printer. Is that possible without paying anything for extra hard/software? Can I do it with just the router?

I have a dell pc with windows xp home
I have Verizon DSL
The router I try to use is a Netgear Rangemax 240 WPNT834
I use the software that was provided but it wont work

It says it is connected but when I open up Internet Explorer it says page cannot be displayed. Keep in mind I am still connected.

All the correct lights are on for both the router and modem. I have a westell 2200 modem.

I have turned off all firewalls and antivirus. I have called both netgear and verizon. Verizon says they could only help me if I had a Linksys router. Netgear has no clue at all.

1.The computer should be able to connect to an industry standard wired network and, under ideal conditions, transfer the equivalent of 12.5 million characters to another computer in one second.

2.The computer should be able to connect to an industry standard wireless network and, under ideal conditions, transfer the equivalent of 6.75 million characters to another computer in one second.

3.The computer should be able to connect to a regular telephone wall jack and transfer up to 57,600 "0s or 1s" to another computer in one second.

4.The computer's display should be able to display at least 786,432 dots at one time.

I have a Speedstream 5200 modem and a D-Link router. Whenever I link the D-link directly to the modem my wireless connection works but not my connection directly to the computer. When I link the modem directly to my computer, I have no connection. My USB from my modem to the computer doesn't appear to be working, Ethernet is connected to my D-link. I've tried linking my ethernet through the d-link but that ends up with only wireless working. Please help.

I can't seem to resolve this issue. A cable modem is feeding into a DLink DI-614+. That is sent to two computers and a printer. These all get IP's and can share files, print etc. The fourth output is sent to a simple 4 way Hub's WAN/Uplink port. The hub then connects to two additional computers in an office located less than 100' feet from the router. The third computer receives an IP and can connect without issue. The fourth computer shows it is connected to the network, however receives no IP address or Internet. The settings seem to correct, they are the same on all computers, other than IP's obviously. These computers connect on their own fine. Additionally, when I plug a switch in before the router and hub, the router works and all computers on this router connect, but no computers work on the hub. Am I missing something? Is the simple hub acting perhaps, as a switch therefore not sending an IP to the fourth computer? I've looked for documentation for the hub online with no avail

Ive been going though MS tutorials from my college library and have reached the section on DNS.

However, I feel I need to take a few steps back and try to understand, in the context of an office environment.. what a DNS is and what it does!

From what I can gather, it is a magic box which transforms the IP addresses of individual computers into names (not sure why.. other that for the administrators conveniance!) ... yet those names are different, according to which version of windows you are using!?!?

Can somebody help me out by explaining in plain English what a DNS actually is (in terms of hardware and software) and what its main functions are?? Oh and am I right about needing different names for different versions of windows?

Oh .. as I mentioned earlier.. Im talking in terms of an office environment... Thanks in advance...
