We will be doing some traveling over the summer. We won't know what sort of schedule we'll be on, so I am not making reservations in advance. (Or else I would just ask the hotels/motels directly) Anyhow do the ones that offer free high speed internet typicly send their signal out via wireless router or will I need to hook up to an ethernet or USB connection?

I would give JiveSly two thumbs up if I could. If you use a laptop on the road always bring 2 ethernet cables. If you want one of those cute retractable ones fine, but they break real easy. Most hotels now offer at least wireless hotspots, but it varies by hotel.

Some hotels we be on the cable. In Vegas if you want Internet in your room you have to hook up to a cable and it was $11 a day at Bally's. There was wireless available if you turn on your computer but you would have to pay for it with your credit card. Not advisable unless you check them out first.

If it's a pricey hotel you very well might need a cable. If it's not so pricey, or if it's recently constructed, it's very unlikely you'll need a cable.

The hotels that first had internet put the wires in and you'll need a cable. Note that these places also often charge for internet access--they need to recoup the expensive wire-laying.

Later providers of hotel internet normally do it wirelessly as it's a lot cheaper to install.
