Because you have signed up for Broadband, then the modem they provide you is one that works to give you Broadband speed (via cable or dsl). However, you definitely need it because no laptops that i have ever heard of have a Broadband modem built in. You have whats called a dailup modem. One that uses the standard old phone line and has speeds even rarely at 56k. So you will need to use the one given to you from the Broadband company. Now, about that you might want to make sure you arent paying a rental fee for that. I know many will charge you three dollars or so a month, when you can go buy one from best buy for lik 40 bucks. So just think about that and if they are charging you, it might be in your best interested to give it back to them and buy your own. Hope this clears it all up.

The modem built into your laptop is a dial-up modem. The one given to you from the ISP is a broadband (cable or dsl) modem. You'll only use the dial-up modem inside your laptop if you want to connect to the Internet via a dial-up connection.

The unfastened laptops they provide away, are those that don't sell in shops, why do they no longer sell in shops? via fact the specs of the laptops are not as much as lots. They got here up with this concept of a "unfastened laptop" with broadband deals as the thank you to off load those low high quality and coffee spec machines. That stated, the laptops are ok for low end purchasers, ie, surfing the internet, emailing friends and be conscious processing. something lots extra advantageous than this and that they're going to warfare. some even warfare with image modifying utility (downloading photos from a digital camera is superb tho) only modifying them could be only a splash a warfare. once you're a low end consumer, it rather is below no circumstances disrespectful, then they're a manner of having a laptop, with a broadband deal. keep around, ask in shops yet have the cheap in concepts and save on with it.
