I already have a degree in networking but the school I went to mainly taught us how the lower layers operate. There were also quite a few classes that were there to develop our conceptual knowledge of how everything ties together. For example classes in web design, databases, server-side programming, and a variety of others.

I learned almost nothing about setting up servers, creating users accounts, configuring routers.. I barely know anything about using servers other than there general jobs like DNS, E-Mail, Active Directory, etc.

Some of you might be thinking "well you'll learn it in the field" but I've been applying for jobs over the past two years and all of the interviews I have gotten have been for high-skill work that requires the equivalent of a CCNA and MCSE. I haven't had one interview for a low skill job. I think it may be because they think I'm overqualified for the job when in reality I'm not.

Any suggestions?

hi,

I am going to buy a big-bandwidth internet connection, and I was wondering how could I split it. Is the device that I need called a hub? And how does that work, I connect the hub to my home line and then and computer that needs internet bandwidth to the hub? And how will the hub split the available bandwidth? Can I tell it where to give more?

In my office we have a workgroup, (peer-to-peer)

I recently changed a computer from (Peter 012) to (DriveStudy)

THEN

Due to replication of the same computer, i changed it back, thus giving me access back to the "sts012" computer

Problem

There is a "dead" link in the list of computers in the Workgroup list of computers

How can i remove it?

Newly restored Dell workstation with Win XP Home Edition can't see other computers on the peer-to-peer network. This includes shared folders.

The other 2 computers (one XP Home and one XP Pro) can see everything (including this one). I can only map the shared folder using the IP address and I can ping other computers on the network by IP only.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In my work environment some mobile workers were issued laptops with the internal WiFi disabled and instead given external Lynksys cards. What's the advantage? if any?

This is driving me NUTS!
I'm running EasyPHP on my PC.
This URL works: http://localhost
This URL doesn't: http://192.168.2.88
When I do an ipconfig /all, both IPs are the same!
I can do a "ping 192.168.2.88" and "ping localhost"
"telnet localhost 80" is successful, but "telnet 192.168.2.88 80" fails

Somehow I can't refer to my own PC using the IP address. Any ideas? All firewalls have already been turned off on the PC...

I have DSL thru Bellsouth. I have a Compaq desktop computer with a wireless card in it. I am using the standard Westell 2200 Router that Bellsouth gave to me. My desktop is the one hooked up to the internet thru my Westell 2200 Router. I am trying to use this computer to access the internet from my laptop's built in wireless card. I have tried the Wireless Network Wizard on my computer to make one, but it never seems to work. Can someone help me??

Hello Everyone.

If anybody can, please give me a solution for this plan.

I have to link 5 of my branches through ADSL Connections and want to synchronise the SQL Server Database that I have installed on all 5 branches.

All 5 branches should synchronise with each other the SQL Server Database is the final objective.

How can this be done? Can I do it without a Static IP Address to my ADSL or should I get Static IP Addresses for all the 5 Branches?

But I want to link the branches without any Static IP Address. Is this possible? If there are any software to do this, you can even comment on that as well.

Anyway, with or without any Static IP Address, I want to connect all 5 branches.

The Best Sokution Provider will get the 10 Points.

okay, I cant connect to supanet dialup (its been down day and night for 5 days now) although I have had an account with them for 2 years... I have tried
-checking for virus problems and spyware (none)
-clearing my cookies and temp. internet files
- clearing up the regsitry
-creating a new connection

if I ping the computer it says it cant pick up the ping but if I try to connect to the internet it will connect to supanet.com or yahoo.com (not cached pages as I have cleared the cache), but then not load anything more.

a technician said its a problem with supanet themselves, but supanet say for us to try what we have already been doing, to no effect. Then yesterday I met someone else at work (I work a long way from home) who said they are experiencing the same problems. for now I have connected via the library to ask here and read answers..

whats going on? what else can I try?

I have a wireless network connection configured at home for my desktops & wireless laptop. But when I visit my sister, I would like to connect my laptop to ONLY her internet connection which is a wired dsl modem.

I do not want to set up a wireless network on her pc because I only need to connect to her internet access, I do not need to connect to her desktop. I would prefer to do this wirelessly instead of connecting to her DSL modem with an ethernet cable, unless I absolutely have to.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
