When you ask this sort of question, you are going to get a lot of people saying that brand A is better than brand B..... the thing is, *most people* will buy one product, and never have any experience of other products.

so - on the basis that this is *one persons* experience of *one example* of *one brand*............I personally use a linksys - a WRT54G and have had no trouble with it at all.....I found it easy to set up and secure.

I use a 3com 3CRWDR100a-72. I found reasonably priced, easy to setup and it hasnt let me down.

The fact is there are many routers around and most of them - although look different - are exactly the same inside.

I would just advise against netgear as I have had lots of trouble in the past with faulty routers and the wireless signal isnt always strong enough

I use the Netgear DG843PN (see http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_modem_router_dg834pn.php ) and in the past have used D-Link and Belkin. My experience with the D-Link and Belkin wireless routers was very disappointing - the D-Link just stopped working after a year (refusing to connect to the ADSL WAN), and a similar story with the Belkin (only functioning as a switch, WAN functions becoming unreliable) after just 8 months.

The Netgear router has an exceptional range (using it's proprietary rangemax technology), and although they recommend using rangemax network cards, you still get an extended range with normal 802.11B/G adapters.

I use Netgear dead easy to install works well good range and has been problem free so for and the price is reasonable, mine cost £65 for the router and a free unit for my laptop. There was an offer on at PC World.

I've used D-Link, Linksys, 3Com, Belkin and Netgear. All are equally reliable and their ranges don't seem hugely different.

If you're a beginner go for the Netgear. Its the easiest to setup and configure.

Ours is a Belkin54g and we have three connected to it. We'e found that it's great - the connection speed isn't comprimised at all. I think it came from PC World if that helps and wasn't very expensive.
