You don't need a server, you need to have Data broadband access. An ISP can get you what you need. You can get a wireless adapter and use someone elses connection.

That'd be nice, but no you can't get Internet for free. As has been said, you need a cable modem. The cable company can supply this but they don't have to. You can purchase a cable modem online from a lot of different places. But all that means is that you won't have to pay the cable company to lease the modem from them.
Now, should you purchase a cable modem somewhere it's not just going to work if you hook it up. Cable companies use MAC Address filtering to allow cable modems access to their Internet connection. The cable company will have to add your cable modem's MAC address to their system which in turn makes you have to pay them to do so.

If you have cable, then you must pay $money to the Internet Service Provider to have the service turned on from THEIR Server.
After you are connected to the Internet, you may
connect a second computer to the router, and it will have Internet Service also without additional payment.
Run an ethernet cable from the router to the back of the second computer.
Go to MyNetwork Places, and run the Network Setup wizard.
If you have problems with this wizard, and activating your home Network
go to the instructions:
RIGHT click START > left click EXPLORE >
In the Explore window top toolbar click HELP >
INDEX >
type in Networking
follow the instructions.

No. You have to have a cable modem (which the cable company supplies), you have to have the Internet service turned on or no signal is coming through your cable (again, the cable company has to do that) and your cable modem has to be added to the cable companies IP list (and again only the cable company can do that). So unless you can con them into doing all that for free, you will have to come up with the money...

When the cable company sends your signal for the cable modem...they usually send the basic TV service along with it. So to answer what you we're really asking if you pay for just High Speed Internet you will get basic cable for free! ...at least with my ISP in Buffalo, NY!
