Distance between computers will probably be no more than 50 feet and it would be from downstairs to upstairs in a one story house.

Hi, guys.
I have 7 coworkers and we are using only single printer, which uses local network with Windows XP.
We are printing a lot of papers everyday, but a certain portions are not necessary. Therefore, I want to know who's doing unnecessary printng everyday. However, I do not know if there is any way for me to identify each computer with numbers or names so that the number or names are appear on the paper they printed.
Anybody can help me to do that?
Thank you in advance!

I have a 10/100 wired Ethernet network running through my house that all hubs in my family room.

I have 1 jack in my son's playroom but have a need for two devices - a PC and a Media Streamer.

I have an old Linksys router that I used a few years ago for a Vonage phone line. Can I use this router to act as a hub in the playroom so both of those devices are on the existing network (192.168.1.X) ?

To put it another way, I want my router to be a hub on the existing network without IP addresses being assigned to its interfaces - how do I tell it to "dummy up" and just pass traffic back and forth?

Thanks for any input you can throw my way - I do have a hub on order from Ebay but it will take 5-10 days to get here and I would like to get the Media Streamer up and running ASAP.

ok, first i want to state that i am using verizon DSL services for 3 years, the problem is: if you people are using DSL or Cable, probably when you turn on your computer, you are connected to the internet right? and what i mean is just at that moment your computer turns on, you are connected!!!, but mine is a different story, when i turn on my computer, i have to wait about more than1 minute for a dail-up thing to appear, and at the time i was connected. well, this is not a big problem since the speed is satisify until now i need to install a wireless router for my second PC, and a laptop, because when installing the router, there is a step ask to reset the network, so for you people, when they reset your network, you network just goes connected auto., but mine will not, after reset, it is not reconnected, so i can't install a router!!! i have called Tech. but they just can't give me a postive answer on the issue, and i am thinking is my modem too outdate or what? thanks for help!

Will I really notice a big difference if I get a 500kbps instead of the 4Mbps. How about if I got the 4Mbps instead of the 6Mbps.

My cable company charges different monthly rates depending on what speed internet you choose, so I'm trying to save the most money w/out feeling like I've slowed down from what I'm used to, which is currently 6Mbps.

Any advice? Thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about this, but some addresses aren't contributing at all, although I seem to have processed plenty of their information. When should I ban them and what circumstances could I be banned after?

My office has a small network with 6 workstation, 1 main application server, 2 other computers, and 2 HP DirectJet for printers.
Network has one Linksys router, 3 hubs.
If I were to change the hubs to switches, would I see a noticeable jump in the speed when most of the workstations are communicating with either router for internet or the main server for application database?
