Hi, the phoneline our builder installed in the wall in our house uses either cat5 or rj45 cables, I think, because it has 8 threads just like my own rj45 cables. I converted our wall phone plates to computer network ports as our other ports are. But both of them that I did don't work.

Anyone has ideas? I double check all other things before posting this. The only thing I am not sure is: are these phones cable that have 8 threads really rj45 cables?

Thanks.

I should continue to use that three different protocols or move to one protocol? Why?

My daughter and I both have laptops with wireless capability. I have downloaded the internet service providers software but it appears that our laptops need to be connected to the Actiontec by either a USB or Ethernet cable to be able to use the internet. What if we want to use it in a different room? What about at school, or in the library?

I am getting the internet on my iMac over a phone line network, since the wireless couldn't reach my computer from the router in my house, but I still have the airport card in the iMac. Can I use the airport card to create a wireless internet network?
This is what I am trying to describe-
Cable Modem -> Wired Phone Line Router -> iMac-> wireless network from airport card.

is this possible?

I have my cable modem connected to my IPCOP (http://www.ipcop.org) firewall, and i have the option of also using my neighbor's wireless internet connection.

I have a PCI wireless card in a drawer that i want to use as the gateway for this second WAN.

So.. i found that IpCop does not support dual WAN. But pfSense (http://pfsense.org) does.
The truth is that i want to keep things as simple as possible, and if i deal with pfSense, i will spend a lot of time reading stuff and figuring things out...
Im not planning this for a big network, but just my computer.
So here is my question.

What happens if i just install the wireless card in my PC to connect to the wireless network, PLUS my current ethernet connection to my own network?

Will windows know how to manage my WAN access, or at least can i manually indicate to a few applications (like uTorrent) to use the wireless gateway instead my ethernet connection?

****. i have no more characters to work with... so merry christmas and Thanks

i got a slingbox for christmas which allows you to view your tivo programs over the internet (http://www.slingmedia.com). it's a cool thing, but the slingbox needs to sit near the tivo and has only an RJ45 jack to connect to the internet. my dsl modem and wireless router are a few rooms away (tivo's downstairs, router's upstairs) and I don't want to run a wire. there must be a way to go wi-fi from the wireless router upstairs to another wireless router downstairs to the slingbox. any tips on how to set something like that up?

How do I connect a computer to two internet connections at the same time so the internet is twice as fast. Since I can get DSL and cable I thought it might be fun to get both.

Alright, I just got a Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook with wireless connection. I also have a Netgear router connected to my desktop.

What I want to know is how far can I be away from it? Im about 200 feet away and Im getting a VERY low connection, it also disconnected every once in awhile.

Is there anything I can do to increase my connection?
Thanks

I recently changed from cable to SBC Yahoo DSL. However, when I had cable I had a wireless setup connection using a D-Link DI-524 Wireless G Router, but when I tried to set it up to the DSL modem I get no connection to my laptop (which can receive wireless connection without any cards) and my PC. When I unplug it from the G router and connect it back to my PC the internet works fine. The modem that I am using (the one provided by SBC Yahoo) is the Siemens Speedstream 4100 Ethernet ADSL Modem. How can I set-up a wireless connection? Please help me!!! Happy Holidays :)

I've established a wireless connection, most likely from an area neighbor, but can't get online. It shows that I have been connected for over an hour with a strong signal. I have a home network that I cannot connect to even after entering our WEP #.
