backwards compatible w/other series???

I am connected to the internet through my wireless Linksys 300N router along with the WMP300N Network card, but every so often it drops for a few seconds. Its really annoying, it will shut off anything I'm doing and reconnect to the internet. Sometimes it happens very frequently, like its happened about 8 times in the last 10 minutes.

I used to think it was due to memory insufficiency, since it would take up about 47% of my CPU Usage, but I just went out and bought 2 extra gigs of memory, and it STILL takes up about 47% CPU usage.

Please help. Thanks.

I own a office building with 8 tenants, each from different companies and organizations. We want to provide free internet access to each client as a perk of the building. Each room is already wired with cat5 cable and leads to our storage room.

I was planning on buy a commercial high speed package and a router. However how do I prevent tenant A from trying to access tenant B's files. I know they can turn sharing off on their computer, but will that prevent them from accessing each others files if someone gets nosy? (someone local told me have one big router and then 8 smaller routers - one for each company - is that even workable or feasible)

Also should I go with static ips instead of dynamic? Any idea would be appreciated to make this work.

Hi everyone and Happy Christmas!

Ok, I got a new laptop for Christmas. I tried to install the cables that I previously used for Tesco broadband, but the modem kept flashing and the tech support said I needed a new set up disk, which is on it's way.

In the meantime, it appears to have connected with something called Lynksys, on its own.

The top of the page says Internet Explorer provided by Tesco, and I can get my Tesco email on Outlook, but I am not sure what this means. I thought you needed something called a router?

Am I connected to Tesco.net, my provider? and if so, how? Is it because my neighbours have wireless, and if so, does it mean they are on Tesco too, or does my laptop pick up a signal of some sort from Tesco?

Can anyone else charge me for this wireless connection, and should I be paying, and can my neighbours tell I am using it?

Sorry to be SOOOOO stupid, I just don't have a clue about these things. Thanks

Wishing you all the very best for 2007!

I have a Wireless-G Broadband Router.
Does it support previous versions also?

Let's assume that the connecting PC is running a proper firewall, so the concern here is not so much a direct attack on the PC's ports (although that is of course possible to breach as it would be for any directly connected system) but rather the security of the data as it is transmitted in the air. Is there a reasonable expectation of privacy, or can someone with proper equipment snoop on every connection, similar to shared Ethernet? Or does someone need special information to know how to access a particular party's connection, such as one would do to physically tap into a switched Ethernet connection? Or is this just not practical, and we needn't be more concerned with a cellular network than we would with a dial-up connection? In particular, I'm interested in the security of Cingular's 3G and EDGE networks, but it is an interesting general question for other providers networks.

Both computers have the same Outlook account installed and are on a home network with myself as the only account/user. There was a problem with the desktop's e-mail account and only 1/2 of the Inbox messages were preserved but all of them are intact on the laptop, so I want to transfer the lost Inbox messages from the laptop to the desktop.

hello pc freaks,

My question is simple.
I want to build a hard drive tower and i don't know what to use to connect this to my network.
I have old pc's lying around as most of you. I also have a couple of hard drives (sata2) which i want to connect to the network.
Now i am looking for an interface (card) that takes all my drives and convert them in a nice ethernet connection.

Where can i find such cards ?

I have a wireless connection set up on one computer, and a wireless USB on the other. I can get this second computer to open Yahoo! but it only will work offline. The device shows to be working and says it has an active connection, but I can only work offline. Is there a setting I can change to fix this? Thank you!

I amawear that the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

These will not be used on a global IP network

RFC1918 faq
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1918.html...

But why such obscure numbers rathern than say:

1.0.0.*
2.0.0.*
etc.

Cheers,
Jon

My question is: What is the main difference between wireless B and wireless G router? Is it just the speed and will it be noticeable? If I can buy a wireless B at good price used is it worth or should I just look for new a new or used G?
I'm currently using Verizon DSL and switching to Road Runner Cable. Having a connectivity problem with Verizon for a year now that they can't seem to solve.
Thanks,
Glen

I have 2 pc's and a laptop at home w/ Verizon DSL as our ISP. What sort of equipment do I need and how difficult is it / what is the process? It is hardwired right now, but i suppose we could go wireless. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions on this. Thanks.
