You'd need to set up a VPN. You'd need static IP addresses at each end as well as a VPN appliance at each end such as a Cisco PIX firewall or an IPCop firewall.

yeah best to do it is a VPN or virtual private network...makes a secure tunnel over the internet to allow you to connect to your friends network...in windows XP you can create a new network connection and follow the wizard options for VPN. You might have to use google to tweak it because there is some configuration involved (but not much) too much to go into in this answer however....gl

It will no longer be a LAN, but a WAN. Your friend need to have a router as well. Make sure that you can access your router from the web, using its IP address. You can setup VPN from the web.

in truth i have never seen it done you could posibly doa remote acces but netwok it i am not so sure because programs like limewire were created for this porpose. now if your buddy lives near by you cold run a cable to his computer and network that way or upgrade your router and try to send hima wireless signall.

they will have a allow you to do the remote assistance, this is the only way for you to do this, they will have to send out the indentation to you and you have to accept it, then you,ll have the access you want.
