You need to enable the wireless networking on your router. First you need to connect your wired network card to your router. After you do that, click start, then run, then type command. This will bring up a DOS prompt window. At the command prompt type ipconfig to get the ip address of your router. The ip address for the router is the ip address on the line that says 'default gateway', which will have something like, 192.168.x.x(The x's will be numbers). After you get this number, go to internet explorer and type 'http://'. After the //, type the ip address that you got from ipconfig for the default gateway. The configuration screen for the router should come up. Somewhere on the screen there should be a wireless section. I can't tell you exactly where it is because every router is different. On the wiress screen there should be a selection to enable it. By default, wireless routers are disabled for security reasons. Also, to prevent other people in your neighborhood from connecting to your wireless network and your wireless internet, setup an encryption key(an encryption key is like a password) for the router so that only your computer and any other computers that you want, can only access your network. Whatever key that you use, enter this value into the encryption key text box when you switch over to your wireless adapter. The encryption key will only need to be entered once into the wireless network card unless you change the key on the router. You also should setup a password for ipaddress to the router itself. The password section for the router is also on one of the setup screens. Set this up as well, because if someone gets the ipaddress to the router, then they can change both passwords(the wireless password and the router password). This may sound confusing, but if you have trouble, I do accept email through yahoo answers.

If the light on the card is not lightining up, means it's not installed correctly. Check if it's seated correctly inside the computer. Next see if the card is enabled in Network Connections. Also, try to update the drivers for the card too from the vendor's website, if you have another form of internet access as well.
