I am currently using a quart of oil per 3k miles and wonder which oil would be better, going from 5w30 to 10w30, or to a High mileage oil, and why?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

How much on average does it cost to have the alternator belt tightened? Is it expensive?

My car doesn't accelerate like it should anymore. You would never believe it was a VW Jetta Turbo! It kind of hesitates to go, also my gas is gone in a flash!!!! I have a 2002 VW Jetta, I haven't gotten an oil change since like....October 2006 I think. Now, that I have some funds to take care of my car the way I should have done, I dont want the "Oil Experts" @ EZ Lube to tell me anything that they think I'll believe. So, if any of you have any advice, please do share! ( They told me that I needed an oil change & a fuel filter change). Thank you!

I am looking at buying a V6 truck that comes with 4.10 gears. An optional gear ratio of 3.73 is offered/available. The 4.10 would get better MPG stock, BUT.......which one would get better MPG if I took off the stock 29" tires (+/-) and went to 31-32" tires?

I would like to put bigger tires on eventually (read...too many hobbies, not enough $$$) and don't want to regear if I don't have to. I am trying to plan ahead to know which gear ratio would net more MPG.

I don't tow anything, MPG is top priority. Auto trans. Thanks!!

Could someone tell me the difference between these two Lincoln welders?
One is a AC 225 arc welder and the other is an AC 225-S
arc welder.
I have the both of these and don't know what's the difference with the "S"?
Thanks.

abs light and battery light came on. Four hous later it started with out jumping or charging the battery. shortly after it died while driving. Bought new battery but did the same thing.
I dont think it is the alternator because the battery regains charge after several hours. can you tell me what it is.

My air conditioning works and stays on whenever I get under the hood and hit the compressor clutch by hand. I've done this on several occassions and it always works. But when turn on the a/c inside my car from the unit...as if I was driving somewhere (with the hood down), my a/c doesn't come on.
My a/c switch and fan slide knobs work fine...but the a/c just doesn't engage whenever I flip it on. If I were to turn on the heat that would work fine. So is this just a wiring problem or what?

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (5.6L) with 165,000 miles. I need both rear axle bearings and seals replaced (although noise is only coming from the right rear). I also will need to replace the right rear axle itself.

How much should I expect to pay for this repair, and is it better to go to a dealer, or can any (major) auto repair shop do this work?

Thanks!

I just replaced my break 18 months ago. I have a 2000 mazda protege. It's almost like the wheels are sticking. In some cases, if i am idling forward, the wheels will prevent the car from moving as if my brakes were applied.

I drive a '95 Geo Metro. On most cars the hazards and flasher units are different, but on my car apparently they're the same. That is what makes this question as puzzling as it is. Why is it that the flashers on the car work, but the blinkers don't? I've changed the hazard/flasher unit and still nothing, and I know the bulbs aren't burnt out because they flash when the flasher unit comes on. Every once in a while (and I mean once in a WHILE) the blinkers will work, but not for long at all. Any ideas?

And the nasty surprse was that the powerful 300+ hp V8 engine was replaced by a 3.8 200 hp V6 engine.

And you paid top dollar for it and the salesman didn't disclose this nasty surprise to you before you bought it.

I have a 2004 Mazda, I heard squeaking sound when I steped on my brakes. So I took it to Midas, to change my brake pads, which they advertised for 45 dollars. But now they want to charge me 800 dollars, they said I have to change my axile as well, so what the heck is going on? Should I take a male next time I go fix my car?
