My car doesn't accelerate like it should anymore. You would never believe it was a VW Jetta Turbo! It kind of hesitates to go, also my gas is gone in a flash!!!! I have a 2002 VW Jetta, I haven't gotten an oil change since like....October 2006 I think. Now, that I have some funds to take care of my car the way I should have done, I dont want the "Oil Experts" @ EZ Lube to tell me anything that they think I'll believe. So, if any of you have any advice, please do share! ( They told me that I needed an oil change & a fuel filter change). Thank you!

By now you do need an oil change, every 3 months or miles recommended for your car. An oil change is not going to make it run any better unless you are out of oil. You do know that you should and how to check the oil don't you? There are several things that could make it run different and you don't say how many mile are on it. It could need a tune up to something simple as an air filter, not likely but could be a fuel filter. If you are going to have a car and want it to run good without problems you need to have or do maintenance's on it before you have problems. Find a place who can be trusted to look at the car and fix what needs to be fixed. If you don't know of anyone ask around. And for you, learn more about cars so you don't get taken.

Yeah, it might be a good idea to trust the guys at EZ Lube this time. Because your car is accecerating wrong, it is most likely because you need a new fuel filter. I wouldn't hold off on the oil change at all. Most would wait untill they have put a couple more miles on it ( considering you had it done this October, you might just need to take it in again..) But your fuel system is the one that is causing your problems. Your fuel injectors are not working properly. They are not putting the gas into the cylinders properly. instead, the gas is most likely being squirted all over your engine!! safety first
Hope this helps. Good luck~

You probably do need an oil change, go ahead and get that. And you might need a need a new gas filter, that MIGHT be the problem, and it's not very expensive. Get a new air cleaner yourself and put it in yourself. While you're at the auto store buying the air filter (ask for help, tell them the exact type of car: year and model; and engine, 2.5 liter, or 3.2 liter for example; look under the hood for a sticker if you don't know), also buy a can of fuel injector cleaner, Gumout Fuel Injector cleaner is as good as any of them. Do those all four of these, and it should be fine. If it's still not, is it missing? Could be a sparkplug, but I really think it's just a fuel injector problem and/or air cleaner problem.

i own a 03 seat leon turbo which is built by vw and is very identical to the jetta, i would change the oil since these are very sensative cars also, i think that u should give it a full tune up and try to clean out the filters, air, oil, gas filters. these cars sometime tend to gather carbon in the engine and exhaust so u might want to consider tking it for a good speed. if ur jetta is a gass engine, not desil, the consider puring in a small bottle of octane in the gass tank when the gass is almost on empty, then pore in the regular gass. when u are driving the octane sould clean out those dirty pipes. i still have my leon and it drives like a charm ;)

By now you no doubt need an oil change, and the fuel filter change is a "good thing" too. However, based on what you said in your question, with poor gas mileage and the engine running poorly, I suspect that there's something wrong with the fuel-air mixture to the cylinders...probably it's running way too "rich" with more gas in the mix than usual, or the air filter is extremely clogged. Wish I could be more specific, but without looking at the car I can't.

Yes, you do need an oil change. You also need a fuel filter change unless you did that in the last 50,000 miles. There could be more problems if you haven't been taking care of the car but those two are the easiest and least expensive to start with.

Yes. It does sound like your car needs a visit to a full service mechanic.

You really want to get into a regular maintenance schedule with any vehicle you drive. Your owner's manual will have the maintenance schedule to follow.

I don't exactly know everything that will need to be done, but I would imagine your poor performance is a result of your failure to properly maintain the vehicle.

I also sense that you are worried about getting gouged by the mechanic because you are female. The best thing to do to avoid this from happening is to take a male friend, boyfriend, brother, or even your father with you. Have him deal with the mechanics instead of you.

Problem solved.

Happy Driving!

A fuel filter will help. A bad gas filter will stave the engine of gas. If you haven't spent any money on this car for 18 months you may probably need a tune-up (new plugs, etc.).

While you probably do need an oil change, sluggish acceleration and poor gas mileage doesn't sound like an oil problem. You probably have a fuel injector problem. That means you may have gasoline totally missing the cylinders, and instead pouring all over your engine.

That may sound dangerous to you, and if it doesn't, it should. It's very risky to have gasoline spilled all over your engine.

yes you should defiantly get your oil changed and it does sound like a new fuel filter would help as well as a new air filter start with the basics and if they don't fix the problem then go to the bigger things
