How much on average does it cost to have the alternator belt tightened? Is it expensive?

What kind of car do you have? Most cars today do not need the belt tightened as they do that automatically.
If your car does need this and I have my doubt, I'd do it for free, its that easy.

depending on your car there is a slot made for a 3/8 socket wrench. You leave the socket off and just uses the stud. Loosen the Tension bolt, uses the socket to tighten the belt and then tighten the bolt and you are done.

Most cars have an automatic belt tensioner on them. If you have an older model, then normally a bolt is loosened and the proper tension is applied and the adjustment bot retightened. It should be simple, so I'd figure somewhere around $20-25 bucks.
