It's mainly salt for cars that causes rust.
I live in Quebec, lots of ice and snow in the winter, salt everywhere, rusty cars.
I went to Florida last summer. Even the shitbox cars had not one spec of rust on them.

All of the above. Exposed steel rusts when it comes into contact with air, water, and especially salt.

rust is caused by the chemical change in the metal. when metal is not protected is not cleaned correctly before primer and paint is applied, salt and other minerals corrode the metal. Water causes rust also. mINERALS SPEED UP THE PROCESS

o god. its called oxidation all metal under goes oxidation unless they have a special chemical. water salt and exposure to air cause it to speed up
